Data Sharing & Transparency

In keeping with international best practices, SEM is committed to promoting transparency, reproducibility, and openness in research. SEM often involves complex datasets, simulation codes, and estimation syntax, and the credibility of published findings is enhanced when these materials are made available for independent verification.

Authors are required to include a data availability statement in every submission. This statement should clarify whether the underlying data and code can be accessed, the conditions of access, and the repositories where such materials are stored. The journal encourages the use of recognized repositories such as the Open Science Framework (OSF), Zenodo, or Dataverse to ensure both accessibility and long-term preservation.

For methodological or simulation studies, authors are strongly encouraged to submit replication packages containing model syntax, simulation scripts, and supplementary analyses. These packages enable readers and reviewers to evaluate the robustness of findings and facilitate cumulative research in the field. Where data cannot be shared openly, for example, due to confidentiality, privacy regulations, or proprietary restrictions, authors must provide a clear explanation and, where possible, a means for qualified researchers to request access under controlled conditions.

By embedding data transparency into its policies, SEM strengthens trust in the published record and contributes to the global movement toward open and reproducible science. This approach ensures that published work is not only a static record but a resource that can be interrogated, extended, and built upon by future researchers.
